About This Role:

Kansas State University’s College of Technology and Aviation seeks an inspirational and dynamic leader to serve as the institution’s next Chief Flight Instructor for its FAA Part 141 flight school. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.

As Chief Flight Instructor, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing mentorship and oversight of approximately 35 part-time and full-time flight instructors
  • Ensuring alignment between ground school instruction and associated flight labs
  • Providing oversight of daily flight operations
  • Representing the program's interests on university-level workgroups and committees
  • While regular flight instruction is not a requirement for this position, applicants desiring to flight instruct will have the opportunity to assist with stage checks, instructor mentoring, and other similar flight duties as time allows.

Since the program is FAR 141 approved, students are allowed to meet the commercial instrument minimum flight hour requirement of 190 hours instead of 250 hours.

Job Requirements:

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience supervising and mentoring others
  • Must meet CFR Part 141.35 requirements for Chief Flight Instructor designation
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • 10+ years' experience supervising and mentoring others
  • Experience leading a diverse multi-member team
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP)
  • Type Rating/s
  • Gold Seal
  • Experience as Ground School Instructor
  • Willingness to work towards FAA eligibility requirements for Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE)
