The Flight Instructor is responsible to the Program Director/Chief Pilot for performing assigned duties As a certified pilot, the Flight Instructor Pilot is required to pilot the aircraft in accordance with all applicable FAA regulations.
This will be a non-tenure track/ 3-year renewable contract.

Founded in 1927, the school is named after former Tennessee Governor Austin Peay, a Clarksville native. Austin Peay is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. Austin Peay’s strategic plan focuses on five goals that will guide the University through the next 10 years. The five goals are growing enrollment, building student success, sustaining University growth, expanding diversity and enhancing communication.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as Pilot in Command and Instructor Pilot of Robinson R44 and Guimbal G2 Cabri helicopters. Duties will be performed at Clarksville Regional Airport (KCKV). Occasional travel may be involved (ferry flights). Performs other duties as required to include, but not limited to responsibilities in support of the following:

  • Conducting flight training to include Flight Training Device (FTD) instruction
  • Transportation of equipment, personnel, and VIPs
  • Conducting maintenance check flights.
  • Writing and developing curriculum.
  • Conducting classroom academics and student evaluations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work any assigned shift or schedule, including mission support outside normal duty hours, and travel as required in support of mission requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently to flight control surfaces. Must be able to move and load 50 lbs. of materials without assistance or use of additional equipment in a timely manner.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Aviation or Closely related field, Master’s degree preferred.

  • Valid and current Rotorcraft Helicopter CFII certificate
  • Current second class FAA medical certificate
  • No previous aviation accident record
  • No previous suspension or revocation of pilot designation(s) or rating(s) (e.g., FAA and military)

The following current FAA ratings are required:

  • Certified Flight Instructor – Helicopter
  • Certified Flight Instructor Instrument – Helicopter

Minimum Required Experience:

  • 500 hours logged total pilot time
  • 50 hours as an instructor
  • SFAR 73 training completed
  • 50 hours in the R44
